Scholarships & Awards

In 2014, the Optimist Club of Fort Worth set out to reward a group great students who are not at the of their class, but who are still great students. This student might have struggled in their freshmen or sophomore year before getting back on track, or the student might have extenuating circumstances that prevent him/her from being a top student. So TCC and OCFW set out to award a full scholarship for students to attend any TCC campus for two years. This scholarship is funded by through Christmas tree lot sales, the golf tournament, and through private donations to the organization. To date, OCFW has given at least 3 scholarships each year to deserving students.

Applications are available in March and winners announced in the June of each school year.

The Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International and the Optimist Club of Fort Worth to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person's personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective.  In addition to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship.  Young students today have so many fresh ideas about the world and their future.   As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in each of them.  This gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue possible scholarships and awards at the same time.

The guidelines (available through the Optimist International website) require that contestants be under age 19 and have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent.  Club winners advance to the district to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship. At the local level, awards are given for:  First Place $1500, Second Place $1000, and Third Place $500.
